Resident Update: Water Distribution System

May 9, 2022

HCMUD 449 will shortly begin introducing polyphosphates into the water supply in an attempt to improve the water quality being experienced within the District. Polyphosphates are a harmless additive commonly used in water systems throughout Texas where the mineral content in the water supply is high. Polyphosphates assist in coating the interior of the pipes in the system and sequestering minerals occurring naturally within the water; preventing those minerals from forming deposits which will improve the overall water color and quality as well as assist in the prevention of the scaling and corrosion associated with hard water.

What should you expect? When the phosphates are initially introduced into the system, there will often be an increase in the intensity of the water coloration due to the fact that the phosphates are breaking up some of the calcium, lime and iron deposits preexisting within the system. TNG will increase the amount of flushing being performed during this initial break-in period but should you notice any tinting to you water please feel free to contact them @ 281-350-0895 and request that they flush specifically in your area. After a period of a few weeks to a month the system should settle down and the improved system will return to normal.
