Hurricane season is June 1 through November 30. Preparing before a storm arrives can help keep your family safe and reduce damage to your home.

Before the Storm

  • Make a family emergency plan.
  • Build an emergency kit with at least 3–7 days of food, water, medications, and other essentials.
  • Secure outdoor items and review your flood insurance coverage.
  • Fuel your vehicle and charge electronic devices.

During the Storm

  • Stay indoors and monitor official weather updates.
  • Never drive through flooded roadways—Turn Around, Don't Drown®.
  • Use generators outdoors only and away from windows and doors.

After the Storm

  • Avoid downed power lines and floodwaters.
  • Report utility outages to your provider.
  • Follow local guidance regarding road closures, debris collection, and any boil water notices.
